Who we are

We Mental Health is an independent website supporting the mental health and wellbeing of female athletes, with a particular focus on Nigeria and the wider African continent. We are not a licensed clinic, a crisis service, or a government agency — this policy explains what happens to information you share with us through this website.

What we collect

If you use the Community Support form, we collect whatever you choose to enter: the topic(s) you select, any message you write, your name and contact details (both optional — you can submit anonymously), your country, and whether you've indicated you have evidence to share. We do not require any of this beyond selecting at least one topic or writing a message.

If you use the Stories page, we collect the story you write, an optional display name, your country, and whether you've agreed to let it be published publicly.

We do not collect photos, videos, or audio recordings through this site, and we do not ask for or store government ID numbers, payment information, or precise location data.

How your information is protected

• Sensitive fields (your message, name, and contact details) are encrypted before they're stored — not stored as plain readable text
• Only someone logging into a password-protected admin area can decrypt and read a submission, and only by opening it individually
• The site is served over HTTPS, meaning the connection between your browser and our server is encrypted in transit
• We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers, and we don't use it for marketing

Who can see what you share

Submissions are read personally by the person(s) running this site. We are not a large organization with a support team — treat this the way you would a direct, private message to someone you don't yet know well. If your situation involves immediate danger, please use the emergency numbers on our Community Support page instead of relying solely on this form.

We may point you toward outside organizations (such as NAPTIP, Mirabel Centre, or a national helpline) that are properly equipped to help — but we do not send your information to any third party without your knowledge.

Published stories

A story is only ever shown publicly on the Stories page if you specifically ticked the box agreeing to that. If you didn't, your story stays private, used only internally for awareness. You can ask us to remove a published story at any time by contacting us.

Cookies and third-party services

This site uses a small number of external services to function:

• Google Fonts — loads the typefaces used on this site directly from Google's servers
• Google Translate — if you use the language selector, the page content is sent to Google's translation service to be translated; this is governed by Google's own privacy policy, not ours
• A language-preference cookie and a small browser storage flag — used only to remember your chosen language between pages, nothing else
• Unsplash — some photos on this site are loaded from Unsplash's servers

We do not use advertising trackers or sell browsing data to anyone.

How long we keep information

Submissions are kept until we delete them; there is currently no automatic deletion schedule. If you'd like your submission or story removed, contact us and we will delete it.

If you're under 18

This site is built with young athletes in mind, and we take that seriously. We don't knowingly collect information that identifies you beyond what you choose to type in. If you're a minor and something serious is happening to you, we strongly encourage involving a trusted adult, doctor, teacher, or the emergency resources listed on our Community Support page, alongside reaching out to us.

Your choices

• You can submit anything on this site anonymously — no name or contact info required
• You can ask us at any time what information we hold about a submission you made, and request it be deleted
• You are never required to use this site to access the crisis resources and country helplines listed — those are freely available on our Community Support page whether or not you submit anything
